GENEVA: The State of Kuwait welcomed yesterday the efforts of the State of Qatar to promote human rights as a strategy for the country especially the establishment a national committee for human rights and its quest to promote the role of women in Qatari society.
Kuwaiti permanent representative to the UN in Geneva and to UN organizations Ambassador Dharar Abdul-Razak Razzooqi, addressing the Universal Periodic Review Mechanism of the Human Rights Council while considering Qatar's first periodic review, said that Qatar has undertaken a number of pioneering initiatives by establishing the national committee of human rights.
Ambassador Razzooqi praised Qatar's hosting of the UN Center for Training and Documentation in the field of human rights which renders its service to all countries in West Asia and the Arab region.
He added that Kuwait recommends to the State of Qatar to promoting its efforts in safeguarding the role of women in society and involving women in the process of development and equipping women to participate in the economic activities of the country.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador to the UN in Geneva welcomed the Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud leading the Qatari delegation to the UPR review, and that this high-level representation shows the commitment of the State of Qatar to the promotion of human rights.
