LONDON: Kuwaiti Engineer Sultan Majid Al-Salem has asserted possibility of dispensing with the traditional methods in the production of a number of chemicals and substitute that by the use of solid waste as an alternative source of energy.

This came in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) following the selection of University College London (UCL) to the Kuwaiti Engineer Al-Salem to represent the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry at the University to explain the latest in research in this respect during the opening of modern biotechnology laboratory by Princess Anne.

Al-Salem added that he was proud to give a brief explanation in front of Princess Anne over his latest project in designing reactors to increase the production of petrochemicals by modern methods, using plastics, solid waste and units based on the processing of such materials means heat and inert gases.

Al-Salem, who is preparing to earn his PhD, pointed out that the importance of the project evolves over designing a modern reactor design through the “Kinoteka interactions” using an innovative way which he will introduce and discuss in his doctoral thesis next year. Princess Anne expressed her admiration for the idea of the project, extolling at the same time the efforts of the Kuwaiti Engineer and the Scientific Section of the University.

Al-Salem received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 2005 and a Masters in the same field in 2007 from the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University. He is currently a scholarship student sent here by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) to complete his postgraduate studies for his doctorate at University College London.
